How to prevent crow’s feet

As mentioned above, crow’s feet are a natural part of the ageing process, but there are some things you can do to improve skin elasticity and reduce their appearance.

  • Wear SPF every day. SPF is not just for sunny days on the beach and should be worn every day. A good SPF cream will have lots of amazing benefits for your skin as well as slowing down the development of crow’s feet, so there is no excuse not to use it! Also, if it’s a sunny, hot day make sure to protect your skin with sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
  • Eat healthy. This tip comes up again and again when it comes to improving skin but that is because it is so effective. Eating a balanced diet of fresh fruit, vegetables, protein, whole grains and healthy oils will help to protect the skin.
  • Exercise. Again, this is a piece of advice that crops up all of the time, but like a healthy diet there is no underestimating the benefits of exercise! Your daily exercise gets the blood moving which brings oxygen to the skin.
  • Wear polarized sunglasses . According to Healthline, big sun-blocking glasses will help to keep the eye area protected.
  • Don’t use tanning beds. If used excessively, they can pose a lot of risks to your skin.
  • Quit smoking. Smoking produces small atoms known as free radicals in the body, which can make wrinkles appear sooner.
  • Use eye cream. You may have your skincare routine nailed down to a tee, but do you include eye cream? Look out for creams with collagen and antioxidants such as Vitamin C.

How to cover crow’s feet

The wrinkles can be hard to conceal at time, but there are some tips you can try to reduce their appearance.

  • Use eye cream twice daily. Apply in the morning and night and it will make the application of makeup around the eye area much smoother.
  • Use a silicone-based primer. A primer with this ingredient is good for ‘filling in’ wrinkles and helps to create an overall smoother appearance.
  • Don’t use too much concealer and foundation. Heavily applied makeup makes wrinkles more visible so try using a light to medium coverage foundation. You can also use a beauty blender to lightly apply foundation and concealer to the skin for flawless coverage.
  • Don’t use loose powder foundation. The particles can settle in your wrinkles.
  • Don’t emphasise your eyes. If you want to draw attention away from the area, avoid the likes of false eyelashes, sparkling eyeshadows and dramatic liquid eyeliner. You can still have a glamorous face of makeup by using highlighter on your cheekbones and a bright lipstick.

Treating crow’s feet

There are cosmetic procedures that can smooth your crow’s feet. Botox, dermal fillers, chemical peels and laser resurfacing. You can consult with a specialist to decide which treatment option is best for you.
